Icon Bar Reference
The Icon Bar provides quick access to the most frequently used operations in the ScrewDrivers Administration console. You'll find it displayed vertically below the main menu, offering one-click access to printers, session settings, permissions, and administrative tools. This reference details each icon's function and when you'd use it during day-to-day administration.
Overview
The Icon Bar serves as your primary navigation toolbar within the console. It's designed with an accordion functionality that lets you expand or collapse the bar depending on your screen space and preference. When expanded, you'll see both icons and labels; when collapsed, tooltips provide context when you hover over each icon.
Tip: Depending on your window size, you might need to resize the console panes after expanding the Icon Bar to ensure the Objects pane remains visible. The hamburger icon at the top toggles this expansion.
Icon Bar Controls
The Icon Bar contains nine primary controls organized by function. Each icon opens a specific view or tool within the administration console, streamlining your workflow by eliminating the need to navigate through multiple menu levels.
Navigation Icons
| Icon | Name | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Hamburger | Toggles the Icon Bar between expanded and collapsed states. When expanded, you'll see full labels for each icon. When collapsed, hold your cursor over any icon to see its name in a tooltip. | |
| Printers | Opens the Printers objects display in the Objects pane, showing all printer objects configured in your environment. | |
| Session Printer Settings | Opens the Session Printer Settings objects display, where you'll configure printing behavior for user sessions. | |
| Permissions | Opens the Permissions objects display, listing the different permission levels you can grant to ScrewDrivers Administration users. |
Administrative Tools
| Icon | Name | Description |
|---|---|---|
| View All Assignments | Shows all objects (printers, session settings, and permissions) assigned to a selected owner. This is essential for reviewing what resources a user or group has access to. See Managing Assignments for detailed usage. | |
| Audit Search | Opens the Audit Search view in the main window, providing options for searching audited data. This tool helps you track configuration changes and administrative actions. | |
| Reporting | Opens the Reporting view, where you can generate reports about object assignments—either assigned objects by owner or assigned owners by object. See Reports Reference for available report types. | |
| Logon Impersonation | Opens a troubleshooting tool that lets you evaluate what assignments the system generates for a user based on specified criteria. You'll use this to verify that assignment inheritance is working as expected. See Managing Owners for verification procedures. | |
| Refresh | Queries the ScrewDrivers database to refresh the entire administration display with current data. Use this after making changes through other tools or when multiple administrators are working simultaneously. |
Common Usage Patterns
You'll typically start your workflow by clicking the Printers or Session Printer Settings icons to locate objects, then use View All Assignments to verify which owners have access to those objects. The Logon Impersonation tool complements this by letting you test specific user scenarios before deploying configuration changes.
The Refresh icon becomes essential in multi-administrator environments where changes might occur while you're working. It ensures you're always viewing the most current configuration state.
