Print Environment Validation Checklist
Run this checklist after upgrading a server or standing up a new deployment — on a pilot host before a fleet rollout, and again after the rollout completes. Every item is a quick check; together they cover the paths that actually break.
Core printing
- Log in as a test user on the upgraded/new session host — use a normal user account, not an admin, so assignments resolve the way they will for real users.
- Printers build in the session — the user's assigned printers appear within the expected time after logon.
- Print a test document from a common application and confirm physical output.
- Print from each printer type you use — print server queues, Direct IP printers, and legacy local/network/PDF printers behave differently; test one of each that's in production.
- Advanced features work where you rely on them — duplex, stapling, tray selection.
Scanning (if deployed)
- Scanners appear in the Scanning Client within the session.
- Complete a test scan end to end.
Licensing
- No license checkout failures — check that the test user's session obtained a license and no grace-period or error dialogs appear.
- License Server version meets the product requirement (v6.0.7.0+ for ScrewDrivers 7.9.6 and later).
Versions and management
- Client plugin version matches the server — clients download the matching plugin per session; confirm the session shows the new version.
- Refresh Server Information in ScrewDrivers Administration (Print Server object → Information tab) and confirm the reported versions are correct.
- Reports/auditing still collecting (Pro/Enterprise, if used) — recent print jobs appear in ScrewDrivers Reports.
Platform spot checks
- One endpoint per platform you support — Windows, and macOS/Linux/IGEL if deployed — connects and prints.
- One session per delivery platform — Citrix, RDP, or Omnissa Horizon as applicable.
Watch items for the first days after rollout
Not checklist items, but worth monitoring: print job completion rates, printer build times at logon, user-reported issues, and the ScrewDrivers logs (C:\ProgramData\Tricerat\Logs) for new errors or warnings. Enable diagnostic logging on a pilot host if you want detail during the validation window.
