Installing the ScrewDrivers Print Server Service
Print servers are required for the Pro print server architecture and Enterprise mobile printing. If you're using Essentials, Pro Direct IP, or Enterprise remote/cloud printing only, you don't need this page. Use it both during initial deployment and whenever you add a print server to an existing environment.
Step 1: Prepare the Windows print server
- Install the Print and Document Services role: in Server Manager, Add Roles and Features → Print and Document Services, including the Print Server role service.
- Create your print queues in the Print Management console, configure their drivers, and test-print from the server itself — ScrewDrivers routes jobs to these queues, so they need to work before ScrewDrivers is involved.
- Verify .NET 4.8:
Get-ChildItem 'HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full\' |
Get-ItemPropertyValue -Name Release |
ForEach-Object { $_ -ge 528040 }
Step 2: Install the ScrewDrivers Print Server service
- Copy the installer locally (
ScrewDriversProOrEnterprise_<version>_x64.exe) and run it as administrator. - In the wizard:
- Component selection: check Print Server Service only (uncheck other components — they're installed on their own machines).
- Database connection: enter your SQL Server details and click Test Connection.
- License configuration: your License Server address, or your nodelock key.
- Accept the default installation path and install. A reboot may be required.
- Verify the service:
Get-Service -Name "Tricerat*"
# The Print Server service should be running
Step 3: Register and verify in ScrewDrivers Administration
Open ScrewDrivers Administration and confirm the print server appears as a Print Server object; add it if it isn't listed. The Print Server Printers reference covers adding its printers and assigning them to users, and Updating Print Server Information covers refreshing its cached printer data.
