Upgrading Your License Server
These procedures describe how to upgrade an existing Tricerat License Server in place to the latest version. They apply to Tricerat v6 and v7 software.
ScrewDrivers 7.9.6 and later require License Server v6.0.7.0 or later — the full per-release table is in License Server Compatibility. The latest license server is backward compatible with all v6 and v7 Tricerat product versions, so it's always safe — and recommended — to upgrade to the newest available version.
Warning
While upgrading your license server, no new licenses will be granted. Users who received a license previously will not be affected. You may want to perform these steps during a maintenance period.
Step-by-step guide
- Get the license server installer from the Tricerat downloads share — your account team or Tricerat Support provides the link; files are organized by version. We suggest always using the latest license server version available.
- Download the installer to your current license server. We always recommend that Tricerat installers are run from the local machine without a UNC path!
- You will need an activation code during the install. If you don't have your activation code at hand, you can find it by navigating to the C:\Program Files\Tricerat\Simplify Licensing folder on your license server and look for a file that has a ".lic" extension. The base name of that file is your activation code. Current license installers will auto-populate the newest activation code found from a previous install of the license server.
- As a safeguard, copy your lmx-serv.cfg and any license files (*.lic), to a safe place before continuing. These files are located in your previous install folder; typically the C:\Program Files\Tricerat\Simplify Licensing folder.
- Double-click the installer to execute an "in place" upgrade from your current version. This will un-install any previous license server version installed (including any LM-X End User Tools) and then install the new version.
- If there are any problems starting the license server service, copy your saved files from step 4 to your install folder; typically the C:\Program Files\Tricerat\Simplify Licensing folder. Try starting the license service again. If issues persist, please see this Troubleshooting License Issues.
After running the license installer, all licensing values will return to default values in lmx-serv.cfg and per this KB Optimizing your Tricerat License Server Configuration. If you are using different values, you will need to modify your lmx-serv.cfg and then re-start the license service!
