Monitoring Client Versions
Before an upgrade — or while confirming one landed — you'll want to know exactly which client versions are connecting to your servers. ScrewDrivers v7 gives you two ways: a quick check in ScrewDrivers Administration, and per-connection logging when you need the complete picture across every endpoint.
Quick check: ScrewDrivers Administration
For the version a server is currently offering clients, open your Print Server object in ScrewDrivers Administration, expand the Information tab, and click Refresh Server Information — the client version listed updates to what's deployed. This confirms the server side; the upgrade guide uses it as a post-upgrade check.
Individual endpoints report their installed version in the Endpoint Client's About tab.
Complete picture: enable client connection logging
To record the version of every client that connects to a session host, enable client logging on that host:
- Start
regediton the session host. - Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Tricerat\ScrewDrivers\Endpoint. - Add a REG_DWORD value named
LogClients, set to1(set0to disable later). - Add a REG_SZ value named
LogPathClients, set to the log file path — for exampleC:\ProgramData\Tricerat\Logs\Clients.log. - Repeat on each session host you want to monitor.
Each client connection is then recorded with its version in the log file. Sweep the logs after a busy day and you have an inventory of every client version in use — the v6 stragglers and not-yet-updated endpoints show up immediately.
Remember that v7 clients download the matching plugin per session, so a slightly older installed client still runs current plugin code when it connects. The clients worth chasing are v6-era installs and anything too old to self-update.
When you're done
Set LogClients to 0 to stop logging, and clean up the log files if they've grown — this logging is per-connection, so busy hosts accumulate entries quickly.
